Silver-haired bat, Sable Island, September 14 2002.  The silver-haired bat is blackish-brown in colour with silvery-white tipped hairs.  This mediuim-sized bat species is fairly common across central North America, but is normally present in eastern Canada only in summer, and gone by October.  The preferred habitat of the silver-haired bat is forested area near lakes and streams.
