The red bat found on Sable Island in 1976 was given to the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History (1747 Summer Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia B3H 3A6). Had the bats on Sable Island in autumn 2002 been found dead, they also would have been sent to the museum. The Nova Scotia Museum maintains an archive of specimens of Nova Scotia flora and fauna. Thousands of specimens are kept - in rows of drawers and cabinets along long narrow aisles - in a large room in which temperature and humidity are controlled. |
