An adult Northern Gannet Morus bassanus on the beach - although not oiled, this individual was weak and unable to fly. During the beached seabird surveys, it was common to find birds that had died of causes other than oiling, e.g. broken wings, entanglement in debris, predation, and disease, as well as starvation resulting from various normal environmental effects.
