A Northern Fulmar Fulmarus glacialis with heavy oil contamination on its breast and tail. Compared with loons and auks, seabirds such as fulmars, shearwaters, gannets and gulls, spend more time flying, and are considered to be "aerial species", and are thought to be less vulnerable to oil pollution in the ocean. Of all the aerial species found in the Sable Island surveys, fulmars had the highest oiling rate. |
