Note: First aired in April 1980. John and Janet Foster explore two very different areas of Nova Scotia. The first half of the program presents their experiences on Sable Island. The program notes describe Sable as “a windswept crescent of sand 180 miles off Halifax, home to hundreds of seals and a haven to migrating birds”, and goes on to say that “the Fosters, however, were lured by the island’s ‘ponies’, small, spirited horses that eke out their short lives feeding on the often sparse vegetation” and concludes with “Ironically, Sable may itself prove short-lived, its sands blown away by winds and washed out by heavy North Atlantic breakers. |
