Majka, C.G. & A.R. Cline. 2006. Nitidulidae and Kateretidae (Coleoptera: Cucujoidea) of the Maritime provinces of Canada. I. New records from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Canadian Entomologist 138: 314-332.

Note: Among the species discussed is Omosita colon (Nitidulidae). In Canada, this “sap beetle”, an introduced Palearctic species, has been recorded from Newfoundland west to British Columbia. It is “found on dry carrion, bones, hides, fungi, and decaying material”. Omosita colon, previously reported on Sable Island by Howden et al. (1970) is abundant on the island. During late June though early September, 2004, >270 specimens were collected by Z. Lucas and identified by C. Majka. Most were found on and under the decomposing corpses of birds and seals and Sable Island horses, both on the beach and on inland vegetated terrain.
