Common Loon (1) - October 9, 1 adult (winter plumage) flying west along the north side.
Northern Gannet (1000s) - September 13, 3 adults flying west along the north side of the island, and hundreds on many days throughout late September to early November. On October 21, >1000 (including 1st and 2nd year, and adults) flying and feeding along both sides of the island, all moving westward.
Double-crested Cormorant (3) - October 12, 3 (including 2 immature) standing on the west tip; October 25-26, 1 immature on the south beach.
Yellow-crowned Night-heron (1) - October 17, 1 very soggy immature sheltering in lee of a building at the Station.
Green Heron (1) - October 19, 1 adult in the road along the north side of West Pond after dark (standing still in vehicle headlights).
Little Blue Heron (1) - October 21-24, 1 immature feeding in West Pond.
Snowy Egret (1) - October 21-24, 1 feeding (with the Little Blue Heron) in West Pond; November 5, 1 (possibly the same individual) at West Pond.
Great Egret (1) - October 18-24, 1 feeding at West Pond.
Great Blue Heron (2) - October 2, 1 on the north beach near No4; October 18 to November 5, 1 (probably a different individual) feeding in the West Pond area, and occasionally sheltering the the road.
Canada Goose (5) - October 8-9, 5 at West Pond; October 9-22, 1-4 at pond near No3.
Snow Goose (1) - October 9-22, 1 (white morph immature) with Canada Geese near No3.
Green-winged Teal (>30) - September 9, 2 females at West Pond; October 1, a group of >30 at West Pond; November 5, a group of 13 at West Pond.
Blue-winged Teal (1) - September 9, 1 female at West Pond.
Ring-necked Duck (1) - October 17-18, 1 at West Pond.
Greater Scaup (2) - October 13-25, 2 females at pond near No3.
Osprey (1) - October 3-4, 1 between West Light and the Station.
Merlin (1) - between September 9 and October 13, 1 between West Light and No3.
American Kestrel (1) - September 30, 1 male west of West Light.
Peregrine (2) - between October 2 and November 5, 1-2 individuals between West Light and the east spit. On October 11, 2 were standing on the beach near Wallace Lake, within 20 m of each other.
Killdeer (1) - October 16, 1 on the north beach near No4.
Black-bellied Plover (>75) - between August 1 and October 25, >75 individuals on the north and south beaches between the east and west tips. Probably 100s during 4-month period, but no count. The greatest number of individuals seen together at one time was 30.
Golden Plover (>60) - between August 27 and October 25, >60 individuals, mostly scattered about in inland vegetated areas and at fresh water ponds. Probably 100s during the 4-month period, but no count. The greatest number of individuals seen together at one time was 40 in pond edge vegetation at West Pond.
Wilson's Phalarope (1) - August 24-25, 1 at West Pond.
Common Snipe (1) - October 26, 1 in heathland west of No3.
Sanderling (>400) - September 7, >400 on the south beach between the station and East Light, with 100s on the south beach all days during September through early November.
Dunlin (9) - between October 2 and November 4, occasional singletons and small groups on north and south beaches between the east and west tips (up to 9 individuals seen in one day).
Pectoral Sandpiper (6) - between August 13 and November 1, at least 6 individuals scattered about at various ponds between West Pond and No2.
Laughing Gull (1) - September 29, 1 (first winter) on north beach.
Bonaparte's Gull (1) - September 29, 1 first winter along the north beach near No4; October 12, 1 first winter (possibly the same bird) on the west tip.
Lesser Black-backed Gull (1) - September 30, 1 adult on the west tip, standing with Great Black-backed and Herring Gulls.
Yellow-billed Cuckoo (3) - between August 10 and October 18, 3 individuals between the Station and East Light.
Long-eared Owl (1) - on November 9, a very freshly dead specimen found by Station staff on a dune south of the Station.
Belted Kingfisher (2) - October 1-4, 2 females at West Pond; October 22 1 at West Pond.
Northern Flicker (3) - during October 1-9, 3 individuals (including 1 female and 1 male) between West Light and East Light.
Horned Lark (2) - November 4, 2 on north beach.
Red-breasted Nuthatch (1) - October 5-7, 1 west of West Light.
Golden-crowned Kinglet (1) - October 16, 1 at East Light.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (5) - between October 4 and 25, at least 5 individuals between West Light and East Light.
Swainson's Thrush (9) - between October 4 and 31, at least 9 individuals (a few obviously weak, and later found dead) scattered between the Station and East Light.
Gray-cheeked Thrush (6) - between September 30 and October 22, at least 6 individuals seen between the Station and East Light.
Hermit Thrush (1) - October 11, 1 near West Pond.
American Robin (26) - between October 4 and November 1, at least 26 individuals between West Light and East Light.
Northern Shrike (2) - October 24, 2 between West Light and the Station.
Water Pipit (>15) - October 11, 1 at West Pond; October 12, >15 flying over and feeding in beach grass on the low vegetated dunes of the west spit (probably many more, perhaps 50-100, but difficult to count in very windy conditions); October 22 to November 4, singletons and small groups in various areas.
Bohemian Waxwing (9) - November 1, 9 adults near the Station.
Cedar Waxwing (20) - between September 9 and October 4, at least 20 (adults and juveniles) near the Station.
Red-eyed Vireo (1) - August 19, 1 near West Light.
Prothonotary Warbler (1) - August 9, 1 near the Station.
Blue-winged Warbler (1) - October 8, 1 near the Station; October 12, 1 female near West Light (possibly same individual).
Black-&-White Warbler (3) - between August 1 and October 4, at least 3 individuals between West Light and the Station.
Black-throated Blue Warbler (1) - October 16, 1 male in the East Light area.
Blackburnian Warbler (1) - September 30, 1 in the West Light area.
Yellow-rumped Warbler (>40) - between September 29 and October 8, at least 40 individuals in area of West Light and the Station.
Black-throated Green Warbler (3) - between August 26 and October 20, 3 individuals in area of West Light and the Station.
Yellow-throated Warbler (1) - between September 30 and October 8, 1 near the Station (on one occasion, yellow lores noted).
Prairie Warbler (2) - between August 25 and October 25, at least 2 individuals in West Light area.
Blackpoll Warbler (5) - between October 4 and 9, at least 5 individuals between West Light and No4.
Pine Warbler (1) - October 12, 1 west of West Light.
Palm Warbler (14) - between September 30 and October 18, at least 14 individuals on inland dunes between West Light and East Light.
Yellow Warbler (6) - between August 2 and October 15, at least 6 individuals scattered between West Light and East Light.
Hooded Warbler (1) - September 2, 1 male near the Station.
Ovenbird (2) - September 9, 1 at West Light; October 9, 1 at East Light; October 11, 1 at the Station.
Northern Waterthrush (2) - August 21, 1; September 29, 1; October 11, 1. All in West Pond area.
American Redstart (3) - between August 26 and October 6, at least 3 individuals (all female or immature) between West Light and the Station.
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (3) - October 8, 2 females at the Station; October 18, 1 male (first fall) at West Light.
Indigo Bunting (1) - between October 9 and 18, 1 near West Light.
White-throated Sparrow (50) - between September 29 and October 18, at least 50 individuals seen between West Light and East Light.
White-crowned Sparrow (12) - between September 29 and October 31, at least 12 individuals (mostly immatures) scattered between West Light and East Light.
Chipping Sparrow (1) - October 3, 1 west of the West Light area.
Junco (22) - between September 29 and November 5, at least 22 individuals seen between West Light and East Light.
Fox Sparrow (1) - October 12, 1 at the Station.
Lincoln's Sparrow (1) - October 12, 1 west of the West Light area.
Swamp Sparrow (1) - October 4, 1 west of the West Light area.
Lapland Longspur (6) - October 3-11, 1-6 near West Pond.
Snow Bunting (>60) - October 16, 5 on inland dune east of No3; October 26, one group of >60 in No2 heath.
Dickcissel (4) - between October 3 and 14, at least 4 individuals (mostly immature) between West Light and the Station.
Northern Oriole (7) - between September 14 and November 5, at least 7 individuals between West Light and No3.
