Magnificent Frigatebird Fregata magnificens. A fresh but heavily scavenged carcass was found on the north beach on October 29th. Except for a few white feathers, scavenging had removed most of the diagnostic ventral plumage. However, the specimen was assumed to be a Magnificent because, of the five frigatebird species, it is the one most likely to be found off the east coast of North America. Kaufman (1996) mentions a Lesser Frigatebird sighted in Maine. |
