Detail of the wing of the frigatebird found on Sable Island, October 29th – upperwing coverts. Traces of a sandy-brownish wingbar are evident in this specimen. Although not previously recorded on Sable Island, Magnificent Frigatebirds have been sighted every few years in Nova Scotia. Tufts (1986) described these birds as “strays from the tropics, probably carried here by gales”.
