Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus feeding at the west ponds on Sable Island. First seen on October 28th, the bird was still at the ponds on the 31st. Since 1990, two other individuals have been recorded on the island, both in autumn, and one of these appeared in the wake of Hurricane Bonnie which passed south of the island in late August 1998, and that bird remained for several weeks. This is a species more often found in warmer climates, but its breeding range has expanded northward to Maine. |
