A single Forster’s Tern Sterna forsteri standing with Common Terns and a Laughing Gull on the west spit, October 29th. The only other record for Sable Island is a first winter bird on October 28th, 1999. Tufts (1986) noted that six were seen in Halifax County in the wake of Hurricane Gladys (October 1968). Forster’s Terns winter from Virginia south through Florida and the West Indies.
