Black Skimmer Rynchops niger, on Sable Island. Like the Magnificent Frigatebird, the Hurricane Wilma occurrence of this species is represented by a single heavily scavenged corpse found on the east spit. Although it was not found until November 10th, the skimmer had likely washed ashore or died on the beach during the week following the hurricane. The three previous records for the island include only one live bird (in 1965) (McLaren 1981). A relatively fresh carcass (a bird that appeared to have died on the beach) was found in March 1993.
