Red-breasted Nuthatch Sitta canadensis, September 14. Since 1985 >60 have been recorded on Sable Island (most often heard before they were seen). They occur throughout April to October, with the earliest on April 28, and the latest on October 29. They are most common in May-June and August-September. Its diet includes both insects and seeds – mainly spiders and insects in summer, and seeds in winter. It is a year-round resident, and breeds, in Nova Scotia.
