Cedar Waxwing adults and juveniles, August 27. On Sable they eat juniper berries Juniperus sp. and crowberries Empetrum nigrum, and have been seen catching insects attracted to outdoor lights at the Station. They nest across Canada and northern USA. Except during brief nesting periods, they travel and forage in small flocks. The name “waxwing” refers to the red wax-like tips of certain wing feathers. |
