Scarlet Tanager Piranga olivacea, October 18. Since 1992 16 individuals have been recorded on Sable: two in late May, and 14 in September-October. The earliest bird was on May 24, and the latest was October 28. This species is called “scarlet” because the male in breeding plumage is brilliant red all over with black wings and tail. Female, fall adult males and immature males are greenish yellow.
