On May 24 2006, the corpse of a male Magnificent Frigatebird Fregata magnificens was found at the edge of an inland freshwater pond. The corpse was very fresh, probably less than 12 hours since death, and its location indicated that the bird must have been on the wing when it arrived on Sable. It had a length of 90.2 cm, and a wingspan of 208 cm (wing chord not flattened 61.0 cm; wing chord flattened/straight 62.5 cm). The specimen will be archived at the Nova Scotia Museum, Halifax. |
