Magnificent Frigatebird (May 2006). This species feeds in flight, swooping down and using its long hooked bill to grab food items (mostly fish) from on or near the water surface – it never lands on the water. It forages the same way over land, seizing prey (e.g. hatchling turtles, eggs, young terns etc) from the beach without landing. The frigatebird also feeds by piracy and scavenging. |
