A White-tailed Tropicbird Phaethon lepturus corpse found on the south beach in early October 2002. Although not fresh, the corpse condition suggested that the bird had died in September in waters near the island, after being carried into the region by Hurricane Gustav. This species is a rare vagrant to Nova Scotia. Tufts (1986) lists ten records for the province since 1870, and notes that all were likely victims of heavy gales. The nearest nesting area is Bermuda.
