In the past two decades >220 have been seen on the island in all months of the year, although most often during winter and early spring. The greatest number seen at one time was 45 – this group stayed at the west ponds for a week in early April 1999. In most cases, birds that turned up in late November and December tended to linger into January and February, some staying as late as mid-March.
