An empty dune slope (and a missed photo opportunity) where seconds before a Bald Eagle Haliaeetus leucocephalus had been dining on the fresh corpse of a Thick-billed Murre, March 10. Since 1991, six Bald Eagles, all immature and very wary, have been sighted on Sable Island: two in January, and one in each of February, March, May and December. This eagle breeds in Nova Scotia. |
