Semipalmated Plovers Charadrius semipalmatus nest on Sable Island. In the 1980s there may have been about 10 breeding pairs, but there are probably fewer now. Chicks were last seen in 1997, and nesting behaviour was noted in 2002. These plovers were recorded in the late 1800s as an abundant nesting species (see McLaren 1981). |
