Ruddy Turnstones Arenaria interpres, October 9. Since 1992 >900 birds have been recorded (but they are probably far more numerous). These birds are present on Sable in all months, with >60% noted in August. Every year since 1996 one or two birds have overwintered, usually on the west tip, near or amongst the grey seals. Most of these winter birds have lingered until March and sometimes as late as early May. |
