Sanderlings resting on a low tide beach, October 7. Of the various shorebird species seen on Sable, the Sanderlings appear to be the most gregarious. Some are scattered along the shoreline, but most move about and feed in flocks of as many as 400 birds – not much compared with shorebird concentrations commonly seen on the mainland, but certainly a sight on Sable. |
