A Wilson’s Phalarope Phalaropus tricolor at the west ponds, May 23. Since 1994, seven birds have been seen on the island: two in May, one in July, four in August (one of the latter lingered until September 2). Phalaropes are shorebirds with partially lobed feet. They feed mostly while swimming, eating larvae, crustaceans and insects. |
