Herring Gulls Larus argentatus in a nesting colony, April 26. This gull breeds on Sable and is present on the island year-round. It breeds across northern North America, and is abundant along the coast through the year. This species is most valuable as a scavenger keeping beaches and shorelines free of decaying marine organisms, and refuse (both natural and manmade).
