A first-winter Glaucous Gull Larus hyperboreus feeding on a whale corpse, January 28. Since 1992, >80 birds have been recorded on Sable in all months but September and November. This species is almost as large as a Great Black-backed Gull. Numerous sightings between April 26 to July 11 suggested that at least one immature summered on the island, at the west tip, amongst the Grey Seals.
