Sperm whales beached on Sable Island.  Thirteen Sperm whales have been found on the island since 1970.  Of the 10 whales for which sex could be determined, all were male.  Male Sperm whales, mostly maturing males of about 12.5-15.5 m, are commonly found in the Gully, and there is a particular concentration of them in the basin at the northern end of the Gully where the water depths are between 200-400 m.
