In early June 2005, the Canadian Coast Guard ship Edward Cornwallis arrived at Sable Island and anchored off the north side. The CCGS Edward Cornwallis (length 83 m) is classed as a “light ice breaker and major navaids tender”, and has a helicopter hangar and landing pad located at the stern.
