Juncus Juncus arcticus (Rush Family - Juncaceae) in late June.  Rushes differ from grasses by having flowers with familiar flower parts - sepals and petals.  The delicate flowers of juncus - emerging from one side of the stem - are arranged in an inflorescence (the flowering part of the plant) in which the uppermost or terminal flower blooms first.  On Sable Island, this species blooms during late May to early July.
