Like many members of this family, yellow-rattle is hemiparasitic, meaning that its roots grow into the roots of other plants and draw nourishment from them, but unlike most other parasitic species, plants in this family retain their chlorophyll. Yellow-rattle is common throughout Nova Scotia, and its North American range is Newfoundland to British Columbia, and south to New England.
