Blue flag iris Iris versicolor (Iris Family - Iridaceae) in mid-July. The name comes from Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow (Iris was daughter of Ocean nymph Electra); and versicolor means variously coloured. On Sable Island blue flag flowers in late June and July.
