Blue flag iris - 50-60 cm tall - is a perennial, growing from rootstocks. It is common on Sable Island near freshwater ponds. Blue flag is found throughout Nova Scotia. In North America it occurs from Labrador to Manitoba, and south to West Virginia and Minnesota.
