On Sable Island, blue-eyed-grass is scattered throughout vegetation communities near the freshwater ponds, growing amongst plants such as juncus, meadow-rue and swamp candle. This species is very common in Nova Scotia, and in North America it is found in Newfoundland to the Yukon Territory, and south to West Virginia and Colorado.
