Cow-lily is found in freshwater ponds on Sable Island. As the ponds become shallower during summer, some cow-lily stems and leaves grow erect above the water. This species is common throughout Nova Scotia. Its range in North America is Labrador to the Yukon Territory, and south to Delaware, Ohio and Nebraska.
