A Sable Island mare, Kiwi, stands quietly as while her foal sleeps at her feet. Often, a mare with a very young foal will threaten any band member who approaches her sleeping foal, but as the days pass she spends more time grazing, at first nearby in small circles around the foal, and eventually moving farther off.
