A sunny afternoon in June, and the mares in Gem’s band stand by while all the foals sleep soundly. Between nursing, foraging, playing and socializing, foals spend a lot of time sleeping. There are many opportunities for a snooze when older members of the family band rest or remain in one grazing area for a while.
