Guest Book Comments 2004

Dec 17, 2004: i just bought a 2 yr old arab filly, by versace out of enchantress and want a name for her. We need a barn name, which is usually easy : ) and a rejistered name. Any suggestions?

Dec 15, 2004: Great website! I have been doing personal research regarding remote modern locations and research stations such as Sable Island, and have been amazed by what I've found. I would bet most of North America has never heard of Sable Island, which is incredible to me after viewing your website. What an awesome place. I would love to visit someday, but do not have the means for such an excursion! I hope you get the funding need to continue operations there.

Nov 24, 2004: I personally would love to learn all the names, colors, and even family relationships of the Sable Island Horses. Also who is in whose herd would be interesting. As for why, well I guess it just makes them more "real" and gives them more depth and character, even if you don't know too much about them. It is hard to be interested in "that horse", but easy to want to learn more about the past and future of a beautiful dark mare named Obsidian or a proud bay bachelor named Turnstone. The more you learn about them, the more you really want to know and names are a wonderful way to feel more connected to them. Well, that's my opinion at least. Hope it helps a little maybe. Also, thank you for having this wonderful site. The Sable Island Horses are wonderful, one of the few 'truly wild' horses left out there, unlike the many mustangs that are managed and branded, etc. It is wonderful to be able to see and learn about horses that truly are 'untouched' instead of ones managed and controlled tightly. Thank you again.

Nov 16, 2004: Interesting and informative website. Nicely done. Toronto, Ontario. P.S. Toronto's latitude is about the same.

Sep 09, 2004: Hello Folks, Thanks for a great site on Sable Island. I enjoyed it very much. The photos of the horses are especially good, but the others were well done also. The aspect of death and rebirth around the death site was much appreciated. Great Job! … Artist, Teacher Librarian.

Sep 08, 2004: The information on your website is most informative. Thank you for this contribution.

Sep 05, 2004: I just read about the website today in the review of the book A Dune Adrift, in the Globe and Mail. You will no doubt be getting a few more hits after others see the review. I applaud you on your efforts on behalf of the isalnd, and hope the gov't continues to monitor and keep track of the small but significant place that is Sable Island. It must be something special living there with nary a soul in sight, good place for those who like solitude, as I often do. Keep up the good work!

Sep 05, 2004: Hi -I got the address in The Globe & Mail of 4 Sept. I found the site very interesting and the section on the horses especially so. Thanks for all the information and good luck.

Sep 04, 2004: Read in Saturday September 04, 2004 Globe and Mail about a new book that's come out about Sable Island. From there I hear that funding to keep people on the island may be pulled. As a fellow Canadian (Mississauga, Ontario) I've always thought that Sable Island is a special place and the horses amazing.

Aug 20, 2004: My interest in Sable Island came about in quite a curious manner, While browsing through a Future Shop store, the huge plasma tv captured my attention. But more specifically, the incredible images of Sable Island that were portrayed on the tv were spectacular. When the pictorial indicated that I was watching images of Sable Island, I had to think about where exactly Sable Island was located. ( And we thought Americans didn't know alot about our country!) I had travelled out east last summer and knew that I had heard of the famous stories of the horses of Sable Island-I just couldn't locate it in my mind.
So I came home and started searching for it on the internet... Voila - which brings me to your site... I have been reading with interest about this fascinating place. Canadians should truly be proud of such an amazing undisturbed sanctuary for wildlife. Although I haven't read everything, the information I have read has been interesting and enlightening. You even called one of the horses Mira - my daughter's name, and not terribly common. I'm sure she'll be pleased to see that. Thank you for a wonderful sight. Keep up the good work. This would make a great topic for a child who needs to do a project on a Canadian site.   Toronto.

Aug 12, 2004: I came to this site to research shipwrecks on Sable island, I ended up spending a long time studying your web site. I found it very interesting and the collection of pictures you have here are amazing. Great site, a lot of information of both, past and present. Thank you.

Jul 28, 2004: Hi, I'm from nova scotia but now live in b.c, i miss my home dearly and visit your website because it's like being home. and as far as the names of horses it's so much easyer to reconignize them, and then you grow with them as they grow.please don't ever stop doing what your doing the horses and sable island is so much part of nova scotia's history to lose that would be like losing the ocean. they are like our children as long as they exist we exist. they are our last wild untouched frontier.

Apr 26, 2004: What a great site. My how things have changed (and not changed) since I left the island in '83. I share my stories with my daughters and will show them this site too. A couple of years ago, my youngest daughter did a small project on Sable Island using photos from my days on Sable. Maybe some day I will get a chance to visit again for a few hours. The memories are fuzzy at times, but still of a wonderful time in my life.

Mar 10, 2004: Good crisp explanation ""waves and current near Sable"" Thanks for each new update presented. I'm a Sponge for anything about Sable Island.
