Dec 12, 2007: it realy exciting reading about Sable Island

Dec 09, 2007: I have just discovered,"Sable Island".  It is absolutley beautiful.  I have been told a story early this morning, he said he was brought to Sable Island to do work and was stranded there for 2 months, instead of 2 weeks...and so I checked it out and everything he talked about, was on here.....That was well over 30 years ago.......He is going to bring pictures next weekend.

Nov 22, 2007: Why not plant trees on the island? These would give shelter for the horses during the extreme weather conditions as well attract birds.

Nov 21, 2007: Hello to the Green Horse Society:
I found your website off the Wikipedia entry for Sable Island, and subsequently spend hours leafing through it--it was a very enjoyable look into the Island. I'm currently studying birds for my MSc in British Columbia, and your page has made me want to find a way to do a PhD out on the island! Such a fantastic place! I saw your photos of the banded pigeon. If can read any of the band on your photos, you may want to contact the American Racing Pigeon Union--they may be able to identify the owner, or at least tell you something about where the bird came from. They have an excellent page explaining how to read pigeon bands and a form for notifying them if you've found a banded bird--http://www.pigeon.org/lostbirdinfo.htm.

Nov 20, 2007: Becouse, knowing  the horses names on sable island mackes it so much more interesting. Out of a herd of 300 horses you can pick out each individuale by its name and by its markings. And sense you know the name of a horse when you see new pics of it you can sea that the horse is still doing well. My faverite horse is Goblin, and Hobgoblin. But ive only seen a few pics of them. If you could post more pics of those to i would licke that very much.

Nov 15, 2007: Hello...my daughter's class is reading the "pit pony" and had to do a questionare about the story,so I googled "pit pony" to see what it was about...very interesting website..thank you

Nov 05, 2007: I just had a quick visit to your site, per an article in PEI's newspaper the Guardian on Monday Nov 5'th 2007.  Very informative site, I will come back again when I have more time and view the entire  website. It looks like a place I would love to see first hand some day. Great work on the site.
Brian Murphy  Winsloe PEI

Oct 30, 2007: aloha from honolulu, hawaii!
Thank you for an informative, interesting, educational, as well as breath-taking website of Sable Island! I am a "fan" of this beautiful magical island, your island!  I hope to visit next year ( Oct 2008) from Hawaii but in the meantime, I have enjoyed your website, photo's, history, resources, and have "spread" the word about Sable Island.  I would love to help, in any way I can.  If I may be of service to you, please call upon me, even if I'm in the middle of  the  Pacific Ocean! My co-workers are just a intruged as I am, with Sable Island. I am in contact with a very nice and kind gentleman who has e-mailed me more information. I appreciate his kindness.  I have also joined the SIP Trust, as a member.  I'm excited! Thank you very much again for your wonderful website!  aloha for now...  from my island to yours!

Oct 04, 2007: At work right now, so am just quickly looking at your website, ref'd by Susan Tooke's website. This is all very odd... my uncle, Capt. Paul W. Tooke, was at one time the captain of the Labrador (ice breaker) and I remember him telling me they delivered food to the ponies on Sable Island during the winter. I'll be back to visit when I'm at home!

Sep 24, 2007: Thank you for the very interesting information. My great great grandfather was the lighthouse keeper on Sable Island in the mid 1800's. It is so fascinating to read about it.

Sep 17, 2007: A fascinating, site full of great information. I watched a show on National Geographic last night on "how to catch a killer" it spiked my interest to learn more about Sable Island. As a Canadian, I am slightly embarressed to admit, I had never heard of this island before last night....
I will add to my places I want to visit before I die list....  Seeing wild horses, as island made of sand, and seals sounds like a beautiful place....
Great site, information and content easy to read.  Ajax Ontario

Sep 07, 2007: I am so glad you developed this website!  I love horses! I pray man leaves this Island just the way it is!  God Bless & Keep, Warmest regards, Sherri

Sep 06, 2007: your site is amazing!!

Sep 03, 2007: I appreciate the place I find described on this website, which is very well written.  I have always felt a strong connection with islands, particularly remote ones.  Other favorites of mine are Nantucket and Monhegan. Best regards, Nate Lange, Newburgh, NY.

Aug 25, 2007: I found this site whilst searching for a name for my new horse.

Aug 11, 2007: I wish I could go here! I live in Halifax and this island fascinates me beyond belief...the isolation and the fact that wild horses are there is amazing! It is gorgeous. Simply beautiful.

Aug 08, 2007: Hi, I found Sable Island by looking at the Weather Channel Satellite for Maine.  I thought at first it might have been a moon shadow but as I zoomed in the words Sable Island appeared.  Having a love for nature and things that are around me.....I googled Sable Island and found this site.  What a wonderful place, pictures are beautiful.  Wish I could spend a week and absorb the beauty.  Terri

Aug 07, 2007: being maritime born and raised i have had a great love for the sable ponies and wanted to take a trip to the island not to bother the horses but to see them live but now it's just a dream of a 54 year old man but very sweet dreams im thinking of taking these pictures and have some one that can paint and have them framed for my wall. but please don't stop studing those beautiful horses. thank you.

Aug 03, 2007: Hello! great idea of color of this siyte!

Aug 01, 2007: has it ever happened or could it happen???? referring to a catagory 5 hurricane , if it were to get close enough to sable island , and sable island is only 13 feet above sea level , again has it ever happened that waves were large enough to completely cross over the island.?????    i read where somewhere in the tropics a storm was so severe that the people had to flee to the mountains and seek safety in caves. does sable island have any caves?? also , it seems that if there were any severe storms in past history , somehow the horses have survived. ok , enough questions.  thank you canada for taking care of this island. and this website is such that it seems , after looking at all of the pictures , that i was actually a visitor.          ,,,,,,,,,,,,  sincerely ,,,,,,, howard from pittsburgh , pa

Jul 31, 2007: Beautiful Place. Would love to visit. Mike L. Cambridge, VT

Jul 31, 2007: Beautiful Horses!  I really mean that =] Greetzz Dominique Schonhage From Holland

Jul 31, 2007: Thank you for posting all of this interesting information about one of Canada's unique areas. We have a lot to learn from Sable Island and your website allows us to live your experiences from afar.  See you, one day...  Gren - Montreal, QC

Jul 27, 2007: Amazing site! I love everything about it and can't wait to show it to my grandchildren. Thanks and gratitude to all those who are carrying on the research  and ensuring the preservation of this magnificent island.

Jul 23, 2007: We just want to see more pictures of horses!

Jul 20, 2007: Why not also plant a few tree species on the island...like some pines?

Jul 20, 2007: The horses are gorgeous.  Can't the government build some kind of shelter so that the horses can take cover during heavy rain or snow instead of just getting pelted by the elements?   Even some kind of hut with a good roof and a wall or two to duck the winds would be good for them.

Jul 18, 2007: Excellent and very informative. I rank it with NOAA sight or the Mt Washington observatory sight even better though. Thank you for the important work you do. Brian.

Jul 16, 2007: It's been a long time since I visited Sable Island (96), but I hope to return some day. It is a little piece of heaven and I am glad to see the folks there like Gerry and Zoe are keeping it that way. Sincerely, Mike Smith, ham radio operator "VE9AA" who was the leader of "CY0AA" 1996.

Jul 15, 2007: What an interesting site!  I found it while researching the "Morning Glory" - or in your case the Afternoon Glory?  I was aware of it being seen in Northern Australia but was amazed to see that it was also found in the Atlantic. Having read your article on the Glory - with it's fabulous photos - I then spent far longer than I planned reading everything else about Sable Island.  You really do have a very well set out website on a very interesting subject.  All best wishes for your activities in the future.

Jul 10, 2007: Thank you guys.

Jun 19, 2007: Like many other people (probably), I learned of the existence of Sable Island by reading The Perfect Storm. Perusing the web, I discovered this site. What a thoroughly fascinating and well-done website! The information and photos are marvelous, and nicely organized. What an interesting and valuable place: thank you for your stewardship and for having this website to share with the public.

Jun 15, 2007: Dear the green horse society, Your website is positively awesome! I love how you divided up the information into neat little categories. Well, I'm doing a project for school on Sable Island and Assateague Island, and your information and pictures would be great! If I could please have your permission to use them, that would be great! There are no good pictures of Sable Island other than your website, I was also wondering if I could use the information from your website too, I'd put it all into my own words of course, and site you for everything! If you could reply as soon as possible, my project is due on the 18th! please help me!

May 19, 2007: Great site and very informative.  I've learned quite a bit about Sable Island. As a lover of animals it was great to read about the fauna of the island...love the wild horses.  In one way I'm happy to hear that vistation has been restricted because everything stays as it is, however, on the other hand people who respect the environment and who love animals would definitely appreciate the beauty of this fantastic island. Thank you for your site.

May 17, 2007: Wonderful site - both the text and pictures! One of  these days I'd love to visit. I had no idea the island is so far off shore. Portsmouth, NH

April 16, 2007: Great, loved it. It was inspiring to read all the research that has been done on Sable Island. Thank you

Apr 16, 2007:  no use submitting comments.....doesn't appear that they get put on the web page. G

Apr 09, 2007: I have owned several horses in the past and own a 16.3 chestnut now his name is Audi.
To me a horse that is named is a horse that is loved, by naming your horse your giving him/her an identity. I have found that most people always ask my horses name and next time i see them they talk to him using his name. Knowing a horses name makes you feel closer to the horse plus of course they recognize their name and will look up,whinney or come to you and we all love that dont we.
I like this site which i found by accident as when i see pictures of horses i always like to know there names. Its also nice to see wild horses as the ones i see are domestic.

Apr 02, 2007: I found this island on Google Earth and I am always interested to inspect further.  Your site was very very interesting and informative.  I will check back from time to time.

Mar 25, 2007: I was lucky to Sail to Sable Island with the Training Schooner Ocean Star in 1994 with proper permission. It was a trip I will never forget.

Mar 20, 2007: I had no idea .  If possible , I would be honored to visit.  Thank you so much for the enjoyment I've experienced from this site.   Sincerely

Mar 07, 2007: Hello, we just watched the documentary on the Discovery network. It was disheartening to see that the seal population is possibly being depleted from the predation of the Greenland Shark. It was noted in the special that your theory is that the seals are attracted to the shark while they are looking for food. Our thoughts were that, if possible, the seals and/or seal pups could be fed by humans during the peak killing season so that the casualties would be reduced. I'm sure that we don't want the seals to become dependant on humans for food, but, this may be a viable short term solution until another becomes available. This obviously would be a costly proposition. I truely believe that a campaign could be ran to solicit the money needed from charity to fund such an endevor. With the coverage from the Discovery Channel, this would be a definate possibility. Good luck with your research and thank you for caring about these beautiful creatures.

Mar 07, 2007: watching a TV show about what is killing the seals on Sable Island brought me to this web site, had no idea this place existed.

Mar 05, 2007: thank 4 sharing your website, it is a wonderful thing to see and experence that someone else has also be to another beach where you may ride on an exatc beach a look at the beautiful horses run wild and freely. This website 2 me is one of the many sites that is down 2 earth. That u 4 this wonderful website of the horses. Thank You.

Feb 27, 2007: I was looking at your pictures of the beach and ocean litter. I sure do wish some day that this practice of dumping into our beautiful oceans and lakes is stopped. What do boaters and companies think that dump? That this stuff is just disappearing? I live near Lake Ontario, Rochester, NY. I've seen way to much plastic and medical waste on the beach. Put it in it's proper place...not in the water, fish are trying to breath. PS - And thank you for taking the time to clean up the oil barrels on the beach.

Feb 23, 2007: Just read Birds of Sable, as usual great pictures, simple easy to read captions, just another reason this site is one of the best on the web.

Jan 30, 2007: Hi there: I was looking at your web site and noticed a list of publications. I wanted to add one more. It is shown below and it uses observations from Sable Island. “Taylor, P.A., J.R. Salmon and R.E. Stewart, 1993: Mesoscale observations of surface fronts and low pressure centres in Canadian East Coast winter storms. Bdy. Layer Meteor., 64,15-54.” One other small thing. I am examining the 1991 Hallowe'en storm that sunk the Andrea Gail. I noticed on one web site that parts of the boat were found on Sable Island.  Is there any further information on this?  I am giving a talk to students at McGill about that event and any such information would certainly be of interest to them. Cheers and thanks.

Jan 26, 2007: this place rocks

Jan 23, 2007: excellent site. The only thing missing is if there are job postings there or where to find them.
Thank you… Boston.

Jan 18, 2007: Greetings  Congratulations on an ongoing and informative site about Sable Island.

I scan with interest the Notes link on your web page. I enjoy especially the changing solstice and equinox banners, however, there appears to be no information about their artist (s), unless a note appears in some nook on the web site I have yet to explore. I'm sure my friend Roger Savage would support me in my suggestion for a brief bio of their creator. Best regards and Happy New Year.

Jan 16, 2007: I would like to see more information about the Islands holidays and more dated information

Jan 14, 2007: In July of 1998 I visited Sable Island with the Sea Education Assosiation's Class 158. We were aboard the Corwith Cramer and our captain was Sean Bercaw. It was for me one of the most wonderful places I have ever been and I would love to come back someday. I didn't find anything on this site about the rescue settlements that I thought once existed on Sable. I read a book called the Nymph and the Lamp and thought that it was loosely based on those settlements. Is this strictly fiction?

Jan 12, 2007: Hello Just wanted to stop in a say Greeting from Texas. I think alot of people learned about Sable Island for the movie The Perfect Storm. I was bless to have lived in Boston for 15yrs. Hope you are enjoying the mild winter Toni.

Jan 08, 2007: I appreciate your time and effort in keeping track of the horses, birds, etc...on the Island. It is wonderful to visit and see how things are going on Sable. The horses are looking healthy and that is great...keep up the good work Being a horse lover I enjoy the pictures very much.

Jan 04, 2007: My 9 year old daugher, Sara and I thoroughly enjoyed your website. We were reading about  Sable island, got interested, and my daughter being a horse lover loved the pics of the Sable island ponies especially the ancestry of the ponies. Keep up the wonderful work!

Jan 01, 2007: Hy my name is jacob and i've looked at you website and i really like it.
