Jan 20, 2010:

I object to the way the Ecology Action Centre was portrayed by Rick Welsford in Beverly Ware’s article of January 17, 2010, “Agency irked over Sable Island funds: Ecology Action Centre at odds with Preservation Trust.”

“The action centre is ‘activist, not action oriented. They complain about it and we do it,’ said Mr. Welsford in an interview Saturday.” This is not true. The Ecology Action Centre is an organization respected for its support of Sable Island.  For example, the EAC has co-organized and sponsored the series of annual public meetings in Halifax that keep the public informed about Sable’s ongoing research and issues.

“We do it,” Welsford claims. What is this “it” they do for their $64,000.00? In fact, they receive more than that--another $18,000.00 in “science linkage” funding from Environment Canada. During the past ten years we taxpayers have given them more than $80,000.00 annually. I agree with Mark Butler that the money the “Trust” receives should go to a Sable Island Research Fund, and those interested in conducting specific projects could apply for funds and receive them, based on the quality of their work. If the work the “Trust” is doing is of value, they would be recipients. If not, the money could go to support other projects.

Jan 20, 2010: Hi there! Your website is amazing! The pictures on here are amazing and beautiful! I was wondering if I may have your permission to use some of them in a presentation for a class of mine? (I am a preservice teacher preparing a presentation that I may use in a future class of mine). Thank you very much for this great resource and keep up the great work with preserving Sable Island and the flaura and fauna on it! Meghan

Jan 19, 2010: I was so thrilled to discover this site with pictures of the island My Uncle Everett who died at over 90 last June in Merigomish where my family maintain a summer home had always said we could fly in his plane to Sable Island where he  had landed several times  It always held such ecological mystique for me and I never got to go there with my uncle I still would like to make it in the summer when I am home  in my beloved Nova Scotia. The closest I have gotten to remote NS is Pictou Island where my cousin lives …maybe some day soon...Marion Baudoux

Jan 07, 2010: Dear Ms. Lucas, I would like to thank you for all the energy, efforts and devotion that you have invested into the wildlife on Sable Island, especially towards the study of the wild horses where I witnessed your accountI from a documentary, produced by the CBC. I have always been intrigued/ curioused by Sable Island and in many regards I am happy to have seen your works, which is also on a voluntary basis from your part. I am a senior highschool teacher in the province of Quebec and when I try to convince my students that the most essential and important part of life is to do something where you will enjoy and take pride day in day out, no matter the paycheck or consequences. From now on, your name will speak out in my school, starting tomorrow... as I wish to share the feelings of honest work you have set upon me. I admire your devotion where your glory belongs to the wildlife of Sable Island.
Best regards, Louis-Robert Tackoor, Prevost, Qc Geography teacher

Jan 05, 2010: Thank you for your hard work and dedication to an island that is very dear to me.  I was conceived on Sable, my family having lived on the island for two and a half years in the early 1960s.  Although I have never stood on her shores, I was raised by parents who adored her and instilled that love in me.  It is wonderful to see my family pictures preserved on a website so devoted to the island.  This website keeps me connected and on behalf of my parents, who have long passed,  keep loving and protecting Sable.  Sincerely, S. Forward

Jan 02, 2010: Great web sight. I was born and grew up outside Dartmouth. My parents were from Hamilton On.and never took our 16yrs there for granted, always looking for secluded beaches for us to enjoy. Now living in Ont. some of the pics of the ocean really bring back great memories of the east coast. I think Sable Island is a true gem. Would love to see it person one day.
