The fluxgate magnetometer, enclosed in a glass cover and mounted on the concrete pillar, makes continuous measurements of elements of the geomagnetic field in units of electrical voltage. Inside the cover, the magnetometer sensor is held in a marble cube (which further minimizes even minute temperature fluctuations), and the cube is suspended to compensate for very slight platform tilt.
