While operational, the observatory area must not be approached by persons wearing or carrying steel (e.g. zippers, pens, belt buckles, cameras, handtools etc). Except during the annual visit by BGS scientists, the fluxgate magnetometer unit is never approached - as is evident from the vegetation overgrowing the wooden walkway.
