Adult hooded seal on Sable Island in late June. Sightings of hooded adults on the Island are not common, with perhaps only a dozen or so seen annually. The males of this species reach a maximum size of about three meters and 400 kg. The Island is beyond (south of) the normal range of harp and hooded seals. Similarly, the rare occurrences of ringed seals on Sable are also extralimital.
