Pit Pony Audio Book

Audio version of the award-winning novel by Joyce Barkhouse

Narrated by Richard Donat

Story

Circumstances force eleven-year-old Willie to work down in the dark and dank tunnel of a coal mine. There he befriends Gem, a Sable Island horse captured and taken away from her island home, and also compelled to toil in the mines.

Pit Pony, published in 1990, was made into a CBC-TV movie by Cochran Entertainment in 1997, won three Gemini Awards, and became a 44-episode TV series. Joyce Barkhouse was named to the Order of Nova Scotia in 2007 for her significant contribution to Children's Literature.

About the Narrator

His work has been distinguished by such awards as Toronto's Dora Award, The Merritt Award, The Montreal English Critic's Award, as well as a nomination for a Genie. Donat narrated the 2004 Canada Reads winner, Frank Parker Day's Rockbound, and the television shipwreck diving series, Oceans of Mystery and The Sea Hunters.
