Betelgeuse - named, because of the large white mark ("star") on his forehead, after Betelgeuse in the Orion constellation - as a scruffy yearling in summer 1997, and as 6-year-old in summer 2002. He is now a band stallion, although thus far his band consists of only himself and one young mare. Betelgeuse is the son of Merrimac.
