Fall Equinox 2009

September 22nd, 6:00 pm local time; 21:18 GMT

Summer ended and autumn began with a clear sky and warm sunshine (maximum temperature 18ºC). The wind was southwesterly at 10 knots. The vegetation was aglow with late summer colours—some foliage had been coloured red and russet by the blasting winds of Hurricane Bill in August, some was just turning with the season. It was a beautiful day for Ipswich Sparrows—splashing in water at the edges of the freshwater ponds, and flitting over the landscape and foraging for seeds in the beach grass.

Best wishes for happy, peaceful and fine-weather autumn to Sable Island’s many friends.
