The CYØAA DXpedition team - Wayne K8LEE, Joe W8GEX, and Phil W9IXX – assembling a 5-band directional antenna at the Sable Island Station. Amateur radio operators generally identify themselves using first names plus a unique personal call sign. A call sign is issued by the country in which an operator passes the licensing examinations. The licensing country is represented by the prefix (the first one or two letters) in the call sign – K and W are USA prefixes; CY is one of Canada’s prefixes. The three operators of this CYØAA DXpedition are licensed in the USA, and the operation itself, being in Canada, is licensed by Canada. |
