On August 9th, Debbie & Herman Samson, and Donald from Arichat, Cape Breton, visited Sable Island. Using a novel approach, they travelled out from Arichat in a crab fishing boat, the 15-m-long Catherine Marie 1, carrying on board a 6-m-long Zodiac. At about 74 km northeast of Sable, the Zodiac was put into the water -  the visitors headed off towards the Island, and the Catherine Marie 1 went fishing. It took two hours to reach Sable. In the dense fog, they only got their first glimpse of the Island when they were within about 100 m of the beach. The fog cleared but surf conditions were rough, so it was decided to leave one person with the Zodiac, and take turns touring the Station and the Island.
