Although winds were light during early morning, by 9:00 am the wind had increased to 15 knots due north (and then blew 15-25 knots for most of the day). The Zodiac was now side-on to the beach and being bashed and swamped by waves. The boat was too heavy to be hauled up by hand, so the Station’s “vehicle of last resort” - a venerable Bombardier tracked vehicle - was brought out to pull the Zodiac into a safer position. Station staff installed a sand anchor on the beach.
