Summer Solstice 2005 June 21, 3:46 am local time, 6:46 am GMT. At the time of Summer Solstice, the sun is directly overhead at noon at the Tropic of Cancer. In the Northern Hemisphere the longest day and shortest night of the year occur on this date, marking the beginning of summer. June 21st was a sunny day on Sable Island, with 15 knot winds and temperatures reaching 13°C. Two adult Laughing Gulls roosted peaceably with terns along the edge of Pinetree Pond, while other terns sat on a hundred or more nests in the surrounding heathy terrain. Greetings to all Sable Island Green Horse Society members and friends
