Winter Solstice 2006:

December 21, 8:22 pm local time; December 22, 12:22 am GMT.

During the solstice day on Sable Island, southwest winds gusted to 32 knots. Under heavy dark clouds with occasional bursts of sunlight and scattered showers, the temperature peaked at 7°C. Four American Coots, a flock of thirty Black Ducks, and a Great Blue Heron were feeding at the freshwater ponds near West Light. Thousands of adult Grey Seals gathered on the beaches and dunes, with many more yet to join them in the breeding colony. Hundreds of females already had white-coated pups squirming and bleating at their sides.

From the Sable Island Green Horse Society, to all Sable’s friends everywhere, best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful winter.
